POS implementation
POS and cashier system linked to sales and stock
A POS and cashier system on Odoo can handle sales for shops, restaurants or branches and connect them with stock records. We configure the screens and reports to match the agreed checkout workflow.
POS and cashier system: what the service covers
The cashier types a price by hand and gets it wrong. A customer buys an item that has already run out in the back. At close of day the drawer differs from the paper and nobody knows where the gap came from. You open a second branch and now merge two sales sheets by hand at month end.
A POS system links every sale to stock and accounting, and holds each cashier to their own shift.
What Odoo Point of Sale does on the shop floor
A fast sales screen
It opens in a browser on a computer, a tablet or a touch terminal. Press the item or scan its barcode and the basket and total appear. Cashiers find items by category, picture or search, and can change a quantity or add a note.
Barcodes, prices and promotions
A barcode picks the item at once. We set different price lists for branches or customer groups, discounts by percentage or amount that need a manager's approval above a limit, and promotions such as buy two, get the third at half price.
Split payments
Cash, card, wallet, or part of a bill in cash and part by card. The system works out the change. In restaurants you can split a bill between several guests.
Customers and loyalty
Save a customer's details when it helps, and see past purchases. We switch on loyalty points, gift cards or coupons if you want them.
Returns and exchanges
The cashier picks the original receipt and the returned item. It goes back to stock and the refund is logged. You decide who may process returns.
Closing a shift
The cashier opens a shift with a drawer balance and closes it, and the system compares counted cash with expected cash. Any difference is logged against the cashier and the time. The manager sees a shift summary: number of receipts, total, and split by payment method.
Restaurants and cafes
For restaurants we add tables, open orders, sending an order to a kitchen screen or printer, and item options such as size and extras.
Working when the internet drops
The screen keeps selling when the connection goes down and sends operations to the system when it returns. We test this on your own devices before launch.
Hardware you need
A touchscreen, tablet or computer, a thermal receipt printer, a cash drawer connected to the printer, a barcode scanner, and a card reader if you have a payment provider. Some devices connect straight to the browser and others need an intermediate box. We check models with you before you buy, and you buy from the supplier you choose.
How the till connects to the rest of the company
Each sale deducts stock in its branch, creates a sales entry in accounting, and feeds branch profit into the consolidated report. Your online store can read the same stock, so the store sees a branch’s balance. Read about inventory software, accounting software and system integrations. For the full Odoo setup, see Odoo implementation.
Typical rollout order
- Items and prices. Clean the item list, barcodes and price lists.
- POS setup. Categories, payment methods, tax, and a receipt carrying your logo.
- Hardware. Connect and test printer, drawer and scanner.
- Permissions. Cashier, supervisor, manager, and what each may do.
- A trial of a day or two in one branch alongside the old method.
- Roll-out to branches once the details are right.
Moving data and training the team
We move your items, prices and balances from Excel or your earlier program and review a sample with you. The data migration and training page explains the process. We train cashiers on selling, returns and shift closing, managers on reports and permissions, and hand over videos you can show to a new hire.
After launch
You receive a handover file covering devices and settings, and we follow the first days to solve what appears in real rush hours. Later you can add a branch, a loyalty scheme or a custom report on cashiers and items.
Packages and the written quote
We review what you need, then send a written quote that sets the scope, timeline and deliverables. The written quote fixes the scope and the timeline, and we start after you approve it.

A tablet or computer is enough for a small shop. For busy periods we suggest a thermal printer, a barcode scanner and a cash drawer. We list the devices for your volume and you buy from the supplier you choose.
